Isn't it great when something makes you smile right in the beginning of the day and you know you're going to be happy for the rest of it? Yeah, I like that too. Mmm.

Wow, thank God that's over.

This has been one of the busiest times EVER. Thanks to everyone who came out to the chorus concert last night, it rocked!

On to the news.

The good folks over at Penny Arcade are being threatened by American Greetings Corporation over a comic they did parodying Strawberry Shortcake. There's a petition going around basically telling AMG to stuff it. See this thread for more details. Support the little guy!

Bush wants another tax cut, and some of the republicans aren't buying it. Way to go against the man! Now, this is something that confuses me. The economy right now is not very strong, and the Government is spending a LOT of money, especially with this war in Iraq and everything. So wouldn't you think that lowering taxes would get the Government less money? So if they are goign to cut taxes, they should also cut spending. Oh wait, we can't do that now, can we. Because that would actually make sense.

Stupid people suck.

Especially this guy.

So it looks like the tag board thingy on the right side is working-ish. Still trying to shrink it down some, but it's nice that people can leave me some lovin'.

So April is a BUSY BUSY month. Last week was Phi Mu Alpha stuff galore. Congratulations to Adam and Phil for making it! These next few weeks are going to be insane. I have seven performances with five different ensembles on four different instruments. Yeah, you read right. Three with the Madison Bugle Corps on Trombone(5:30 today on the quad, 6:30 on thursday at Grafton, and 8? on next tuesday somewhere?), one band concert on Euphonium(the 27th at Wilson at some time), one Easter Gig-ish thing in Covington on Euphonium(leaving at 7:45 AM on Easter Sunday to drive two hours!), one Chorus concert on voice(next wednesday at 8 in Wilson), and one Phi Mu ALpha recital on Eb Horn!(next monday at 6:30 in 142)

Fun-itude.

In other news, Stephanie has progressed to book three of the Wheel of Time, The Dragon Reborn. Hurray! Dan watches a lot of Sports Night. Josh's party was awesome.

In real world news, the US didn't "anticipate looting". Why not? Anarchy follows right after and during War. HELLOOO!!!

It also appears we may be taking down Syria soon. The domino effect anyone? Oh wait, that's for the "evil" that is communism.

And winning at soccer is good for the heart! So what happens if you lose?

Someone sick the SPCA on these guys.

That's all she wrote. For now...

Congratulations to Mary for winning FOUR awards tonight at the College of Science and Mathematics Awards Ceremony, including Most Outstanding Senior! Woo hoo!

Oh yeah, I got an award too. Go me.

I was listening to wxjm, JMU's radio station earlier tonight and I heard two things that were totally awesome. The first was the Trogdor song. Yes, Trogdor of homestarrunner notoriety. It was fab! The hosts of the show were also doing a little madlib, and one of the words they needed was a plural object. Some plural objects? Anyway, the caller said "wigs." What was funny was that one of the hosts asked if she meant "wig" as in accesory or "Whig" as in the party. SHe didn't get it. It was great.

Jason helped me out a bit with the board on the left. I'm going to see if it works right now. Woohoo! Jason rocks!

So after the wonderful Saturday of 8+ hours of driving and stopping to visit brothers in Farmville and Winchester(and Teri!!!), I come home late saturday night to find an extremely loud raucous party going on upstairs. It's absolutely CRAZY. I turn on the television to check the scores from the Final Four games. Texas is losing to Syracuse by a bit with a few minutes to go, that's a good thing. And oh, what's this? Could it be? Of course!

Kansas Kansas Kansas! Alright!

Okay, now that that's over with, it's been a LONG weekend. Insomnia sucks.

Dr. Liu, however, is an amazing teacher and totally awesome. We talked about China for a bit, and he pointed out something very interesting to me.

There are about 1 Billion people living in China. Of that 1 Billion, there have been 1268 reported cases with 53 deaths. There are about 6 Billion people living in the World. There have been 2600+ cases reported of SARS, with 95 deaths.

Let's do a little math, shall we?

1268 people infected with SARS / 1000000000 people in China

= 0.0001268% of people in China infected with SARS.

2600 people infected with SARS / 6000000000 people in the world

= 0.0000433% of people on Earth infected with SARS.

Wow. So there's a good chance that I would have been infected with it had I gone to China.

I'm so glad they cancelled it!!

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!

Kansas is going to win tonight!

And I hope Texas loses, just so I can make fun of Clint on monday.

See, there's this guy Clint in a few of my math classes. Clint is very intelligent, and comes up with great ideas, but he could use a little work on his algebra skills (he couldn't do FOIL!). And then there's his organization. Or rather, his lack thereof. The most disorganized person I know. And that's saying something, coming from me. So he says in class earlier this week (monday?) that he'll win $200 as long as Texas loses. I wouldn't have a problem with this except for what Clint's extra curricular activites are. So yeah. I hope Texas loses.

So I got this email on Thursday night. It read:

"Dear Matthew and Family,

Due to the uncertainty of the situation with regards to Severe Acute
Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), NYLF has made the decision to postpone all
International Mission programs in China that were to take place in May and
June.

It was our hope that developments with regards to SARS would be such that we
could continue as planned, to provide the exceptional career experience of
International Mission in China programs this summer. However, because the
health and safety of all those involved in NYLF programs is a priority, we
feel that postponement is the most prudent decision given what is known
today.

We look forward to offering the programs when the situation has been
resolved. With that in mind, you will be sent an additional e-mail tomorrow
followed by a letter next week detailing your available options.

Sincerely,

Heather Sherman
Director of Admissions
"

BAH! BAH I SAY! Oh well. Let's see what these options are. Enter friday's email:

"Dear Matthew:

As you know from our email correspondence to you last evening, the NYLF
Board of Directors has made the decision to postpone the International
Missions in China. In light of the uncertainty regarding Severe Acute
Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), the Board feels that this is the best course of
action to take to assure the safety and security of all participants and
staff.

Your program in China has been rescheduled for May/June 2004. Your
enrollment in the International Mission on Engineering remains confirmed and
no further tuition will be required.

If you cancel your participation in the International Mission on
Engineering, a refund of tuition fees paid, less the $500 cancellation fee
will be issued.

You will receive a package of information and a form for rescheduling your
enrollment in the next few days by mail. This document will again outline
the available options and includes the necessary form to confirm your
participation. Once you have received that package, if you should have any
additional questions, please contact our Office of Admissions at
***-***-****.

We are pleased that you will still have the opportunity to take advantage of
this incredible learning experience. We look forward to meeting you at the
International Mission on Engineering.

Sincerely,

Heather Sherman
Director of Admissions
"

So I'm probably not going to China. And paying $500 for the chance! Woo hoo!

That sucks ASS.

Magic and Mischief is AWESOME. I got to participate in it. Brian is fabulous, as always. And Joe juggles extraordinarily well! And Stephanie and Kat smile and assist the magician. Kat's duties, it seems, include picking me from the audience to make a fool of myself. What fun!

Thanks Kat. ;)

And after a fun-filled travel-filled day, I am going to get ready for some more travel.

Out.
