If The Playoffs Were Right Now

If the playoffs for baseball were right now, this is what it would look like:

American League:
White Sox
Orioles
Angels
Red Sox (WC)

National League:
Cardinals
Nationals
Padres
Phillies (WC)

Wait, what? You have got to be kidding! The White Sox?? The Orioles? The Nationals?? The freaking Padres?? The PHILLIES??? When was the last time any of those teams made it to the playoffs??? Hmmm, actually, apparently not that long ago.

White Sox were in the playoffs in 2000, losing 3-0 to the Mariners.

Padres were in the World Series in 1998 (beating Astros 3-1 and Braves 4-2 to get there), losing 4-0 to the Yankees (first of their three in a row).

Orioles were in the playoffs in 1997, beating the Mariners 3-1 but losing to the Indians 4-2.

The Phillies were in the World Series in 1993 (beating the Braves 4-2 to get there), losing 4-2 to the Blue Jays.

The Nationals/Expos haven't been in the playoffs since 1981, losing to the Dodgers 3-2.

Wow. I thought it was going to be a lot longer for the White Sox and the Padres. Go Nationals though.

Let's see an Orioles-Nationals World Series!
