When I think about you I contradict myself

I enjoy posts like this one. Showing how someone's statements are completely contradictory is highly amusing. It also helps that I don't agree with the person in question.

Anyone else have any other examples of these? From the left, right, middle, or otherwise?

The homosexual agenda

Pictures that show some of the shocking things homosexuals do.

Read this post while you're there.

Speaking of Jesse at Pandagon: "I...don't understand...question?" Haha. Parody, sarcasm, and mockery at its finest.

Friday Random Ten

The Friday Random Ten (no cheating at all I swear) from computer#2:

1. Vince DiCola, Stan Bush, "City Under Siege" - Transformers the Movie soundtrack
2. John Williams, "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" (Is this correctly named?)
3. Yoko Kanno, "Bad Dog No Biscuits" - Cowboy Bebop OST1
4. Monty Norman Orchestra, "Bond - James Bond Theme" (sensing a theme here? Yes, I have a lot of soundtracks on this computer. Blame Harmsen)
5. Yoko Kanno, "Space Lion" - Cowboy Bebop OST1
6. Yoko Kanno, "Adieu" - Cowboy Bebop OST3-Blue
7. The Seatbelts, "Tank! (Luke Vilbert Remix) - Cowboy Bebop: Music for Freelance
8. Mussorgsky, "Khovanschina (excerpt)"
9. Yoko Kanno, "Digging My Potato" - Cowboy Bebop OST1
10. Andrew Lloyd Weber, "Everything's Alright" - Jesus Christ Superstar

Wow.

Okay, first off, apparently I have three copies of OST1 here. WEIRD. And I have multiple copies of several of the other OSTs. Guess that's why half the music is Cowboy Bebop. I do like the first track in the FRT!

Wow.

FRT from computer#1 coming later today.

Lauren references an article about "girl crushes". Basically, crushes that women have on other women, but don't follow through on them. Because, you know, they're "not gay". So it's just a friend crush. Everybody has those. Men have friend crushes on men and women, and women have friend crushes on women and men. The notion that it's only a female concept because men "aren't in touch with their feelings" is BS.

I've had friend crushes on plenty of people, and been the subject of friend crushes.

Just a little commenting about equality and all that.

Amanda, I just want to say that I trust women.

Dammit, as I'm writing this Craw came on next. See, I told you I wasn't cheating!

Kelsey Grammer, Director of Adult Films

This year is a good year for books and movies.

There's Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince of course. And wasn't that just fantastic? We also have the next Wheel of Time book (Knife of Dreams...Jordan always has....interesting titles...), the next George R R Martin book (and it's about friggin time!), and the next Honor Harrington book of course. David Weber is fast becomming one of my favorite authors. For Sci-Fi at least. Yeah, it's not literature, but it's damn good writing.

As far as movies go we had Revenge of the Sith (yeah, yeah, I know...), and we're getting Harry Potter 4 (I'm excited about this one...Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort! Oh, and it seems 5 is coming out in 2007 and 6 in 2008....interesting....), and of course....The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

Like I said, good year for movies.

Next year has X-Men 3 coming out. And looking at the cast, I see that we have some new characters...

Angel (hoping to see his other form), Beast (played by Kelsey Grammer, good choice!), PHOENIX!!!, Juggernaut (Vinnie Jones...), and Shadowcat.

I know I'm a colossal geek, but come on. How can you NOT be excited by this movie?

Speaking of Kelsey Grammer, was he in a porno?

Stupidity, Vanity, and the Bible

Don't you love it when you incorrectly remember a word, thus providing all sorts of amusing situations? Same thing with mispronouncing words.

Vanity plates, and more vanity plates.

Finally, the place of the Bible in literature and history is being taught throughout the country. Except they're teaching one particular opinion of the Bible, full of factual innaccuracies and plagiarism. Read the whole report. (via Pandagon)

And a Didgeridoo to You Too!

Ninja Cats! (courtesy of Feministe)

Listen to Jason sing! His friend Jessie, whoever the hell that is, has an, um, interesting picture.

I had some more adventures in cooking today. I modified the chicken-salsa dish a little, and it turned out great! You know it's good when your head starts sweating profusely from the spiciness.

In other exciting news, I am going to be reading this page a lot in the next week. Stephanie got me a didgeridoo! Aw hell yeah!

I'm going to bust out the circular breathing on yo ass. Bring it.

Oil Mathematics and American Logic!

So we now have more oil than we expected. Woo.

Let's have some fun with math!

Oil for September costs $61.65 a barrel. There are 42 gallons in a barrel. So a gallon of gas costs about $1.47. Looking at this picture, we can tell that at the beginning of July, gas was about $60 a barrel, or $1.43 a gallon. So why the hell does it cost $2.25 a gallon??

This is why. Since crude oil is supposedly only 54% of the cost, the prices right now aren't too bad. At least in Fredericksburg.

So why the hell is crude oil $60 a barrel when OPEC has been claiming their target price is $40 a barrel?

Let's go back to that story in the beginning.
U.S. gasoline demand is some 2.4 percent higher than a year ago. Car manufacturer General Motors Corp. said sales of gas-guzzling SUVs were at an all-time high in July.
Ahhh, yes. The wonderful logic of the American consumer.

"Gas is too high!" "Yeah, it costs me $50 just to fill up my tank on my SUV that I drive to work." Unless you have to drive off-road to get to your job, you should shut the hell up and buy a reasonable car.

I'm off to go drive my HONDA CIVIC. Haha, 40 mpg suckers!

Just wait til I buy my hybrid.

Kubrick and the Sexiest Man in Yoga

Rodney Yee has a website!

Rodney Yee has a blog!!

What a wonderful day.

I saw A Clockwork Orange last night. It was very...Kubrick. It is supposed to be "shocking", which it is, but probably not as shocking as it was back in 1972. I suppose we've been more desensitized since then. At any rate, it was interesting, in a disturbing, macabre sort of way. The rape scenes did make me particularly uncomfortable. You know, all misgivings about the death penalty aside, I think we should take a clue from David Weber and make Rape a capital crime.

Anyway, I'm a little interested in reading about Kubrick's life. He has to have had some pretty messed up things happen to him to make such bizarre movies. I will investigate this further.

In the meantime, go check out the sexiest man in yoga.

Education Kills?

There's a very well written story in The Washington Post this morning. It's about a man on trial for murder and rape who may not ever stand trial.

The victim was sixteen year old Brittany Binger, a girl just trying to make it in the world. Her dreams were a steady job and a stable home. She was raped and murdered, scratching her killer before she died.

His name is Oswaldo Martinez. He's deaf and illiterate. He has never had any education and has virtually no concept of what language is. He doesn't know sign language. He can write his own name, but that's about it.

So he cannot communicate with his lawyer. So he cannot reasonably defend himself, so he has to be institutionalized while they try to overcome his disability.

Meaning he's going to get an education for the first time in his life.

All so that he can stand trial and face the death penalty.

It looks like an open and shut case. They matched the semen and the skin underneath the Brittany's fingernails to saliva from a bottle left at the scene and a bottle of beer he drank. They have a trail a bloodhound found, and video tapes putting him at the scene at the time, as well as all the places the bloodhound had found his scent. They also have a picture taken a few days after the murder with an abrasion on his face, appearing to match a fingernail scratch.

Violence against women is a horrendous crime. Education is the best way to combat it.

But in this case, education may be the one thing that kills Martinez.

STDs more likely for abused girls

There's a new study out saying that girls who have been abused in relationships are more likely to get tested for and contract an STD.

That's not the most troubling thing about the study though. This is:
[The study] found that almost one out of every three girls surveyed said they had ever been sexually and/or physically abused by a date.
One out of every three girls. That is a horrifying rate!

So how to combat this? Michelle Decker, the author of the study, has it exactly right:
But "the real work remains to be done with young men to prevent dating violence from ever occurring," Decker told Reuters Health. "To truly prevent dating violence and its damaging health impacts, we must promote healthy and respectful relationships among teens and hold abusers accountable for their actions."
Healthy and respectful relationships among everyone! Don't stand silently by while someone is being abused. Know the signs.
